Reductionist rationality, authority over the body, individualism, and technological orientation are values common to both stories of medicine discussed above: necessary to produce “neutral” knowledge and practice, they also cognitively structure a medicine seen as neocolonial domination.

When I pursued graduate training in anthropology, I developed the tools that would allow me to do so. This personal engagement with the research topic makes a book more interesting to write (and, I hope, to read). It will also raise red flags for some readers.
