Bird et al. (1968) made several observations on the embryology of T. christiei (= P. minor). In this species, the eggs (oval, 60-70 pm long and 38-42 pm wide) were laid in the single cell stage. Tbe fIrst c1eavage was transverse to the longitudinal axis of the egg and produced two blastomeres of about equal size. Tbe c1eavage of each of the blastomeres was also transverse to the longitudinal axis, producing four blastomeres of similar size. These c1eavages occurred during the fIrst 24 hours after the egg was laid.
Tbe blastula and gastrula stages occurred between 48 and 72 hours after the egg was laid, resulting in avermiform embryo. Tbis stage continued to elongate and soon became capable of occasional movement. Bird et al. (1968) recognized the fIrst-stage juvenile within the egg 96 hours after the egg was laid; it had a well-developed stomatal armature. The pharynx and intestine developed rapidly after the 96th hour, and the juvenile emerged from the egg between 100 and 120 hours after the egg was laid.
